Hello BritWres fans! I'm Lyle "Chips" Carr and I'm delighted to join the BritWresReview team.
I've been watching wrestling on and off for 18 years now. I was first introduced to wrestling by a friend on the bus taking us to swimming lessons. He told me tales of a man who wore a mask because his brother burnt his face and I couldn't figure out how this could be shown on TV! When I got home I found one of the B shows on TV (probably heat?) and saw my first match, D'lo Brown taking on somebody I don't remember! D'lo has always had a special place in my heart because of this, and I was hooked. I wrestled in the playground, watched any wrestling I could find on TV and sometimes even convinced my dad to record the free ppvs at 1am.
Over the years I had many favourites in WWE. Ric Flair, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, CM Punk, The Miz, Kevin Owens and Charlotte come to mind. I've always found heels much more interesting and badass than faces (not just in wrestling either). While most kids were talking about The Rock and Stone Cold, I was all about HHH and Kurt Angle.
Some of my favourite WWE matches are:
Kurt Angle vs. Shane McMahon (King of the Ring 2001, Street Fight)
Shawn Micheals vs. Ric Flair (Wrestlemania XXIV)
Shawn Micheals vs. Chris Jericho (No Mercy 2008, Ladder Match)
John Cena vs. CM Punk (Money in the Bank 2011)
The Shield vs. The Wyatt Family (Elimination Chamber 2014)
John Cena vs. Kevin Owens (Elimination Chamber 2015)
I got my first taste of current British Wrestling with the World of Sport special last year. I loved how Grado was presented as the top babyface and the crowd actually adored him. I was so used to (in WWE) the top guy getting at least as many boos as cheers, it was so refreshing. Since then I've been watching and podcasting about as much BritWres as possible.
I've really fallen in love with the great personas and brilliant in ring work of so many people in the Brit Wres scene. Will Ospreay, Trent Seven, Sha Samuals, Kay Lee Ray, Bad Bones, Bea Priestley, Travis Banks, Sam Gradwell and Grado are some of my personal favourites, but this list is ever growing!
Some of my favourite matches from my short time watching British wrestling are:
Wolfgang vs. Trent Seven (ICW 6th Annual Square Go!)
Travis Banks vs. Zack Sabre Junior (WCPW Lights Out)
Rampage vs. Bad Bones (WCPW Chain Reaction, Street Fight)
Sam Gradwell vs. "The Grafter" Rick Markus (Alpha Omega Wrestling Morecambe Mayhem)
Here on BritWres Review I'll be reviewing WCPW shows, So come join me as I guide you through this sometimes weird and sometimes wonderful promotion.
