We recently struck gold here at BritWres Review when we approached current Combat Zone Wrestling Wired Champion, Maxwell Jacob Friedman. 'MJF' was gracious enough to allow us to conduct this interview and we thank him for taking the time to answer our questions.
When did you become a fan of professional wrestling and who were some of your favourite wrestlers when you became a fan?
When I saw Mick Foley vs. Taker in their classic Hell in a Cell match.
What was it that made you realise that you wanted to become a pro wrestler?
The sport got boring it needed a guy like me.
How did your family and friends react when you told them that you wanted to start training?
They were ecstatic because they knew I was about to make a lot of money.
You trained at the Create-A-Pro Wrestler school under Pat Buck and current WWE Superstar Curt Hawkins. Were there any other schools that you considered, or was CAP the only wrestling school you wanted to attend?
No, I only considered CAP because it's the best training in the area bar none. There are other phenomenal schools but nothing beats CAP.
How quickly did you pick things up and did you have any previous experiences in sports which may have helped you in your training?
I've been in this profession for two years and everyone wants a piece of my gravy train. What do you think? And as far as sports go I was all state in football and wrestling. Got many scholarship offers.
You made your in-ring debut in 2015 for CAP. What are your memories of that match and show?
I remember the crowd was in pure shock because they realized they were witnessing greatness in front of their very eyes.
Last year you wrestled for approximately 20 promotions and this year you've topped that number already. Is it part of your plan at this stage in your career to get out to as many promotions as you possibly can?
Yes. And it was 25 promotions last year actually. I feel the world deserves to see what it means to be #better!
You won the CZW Wired Championship in May from Johnny Yuma at the Sacrifices event in May. Is there anyone in particular on the CZW roster, or perhaps even outside of CZW, who you'd like to wrestle to elevate both yourself and the prestige of the CZW Wired Championship?
I'll take on anyone and everyone as long as they are up to my standards. And as far as dream matches go if I haven't wrestled my dream opponent yet I'm about to. Trust me.
Are there any promotions you'd like to wrestle for between now and the end of the year that you've never worked for before?
As far as that goes same rules apply I've wrestled in every top promotion on the independents in the US with the exception of a couple and by the end of this year, I'm sure I'll be there. As far as the U.K. Goes I'd love to wrestle at Progress, PCW, OTT, XWA, among others.
Do you have any plans to come to the UK to wrestle or are you solely concentrated on working on the American independent scene for now?
If it happens it happens but currently, all I'm concerned about is making money and business is booming so if the money is in the U.K. I'm there.
Are there any matches from your career so far which stand out in your mind above others that you'd recommend to fans to check out?
Go to google and type in Maxwell Jacob Friedman....you're welcome!
Lastly, what are your long-term and short-term career goals?
Continue being better than you and you know it.
