4GW Seize the Moment – 10-02-18
On Saturday the 10th of February I made the short trip down to Castleford for 4GWs Seize the Moment event. The venue was nicely filled out and after a short intro video we were right into the action. David Graves vs Danny Hudson Graves wins with a roll up after Hudson got a 2 off a choke bomb. Before the match could get under way David Graves cut a promo on how much he hated the local rugby team the classic I hate local sports team promo which works much better in the US where they would die for their chosen team, in the UK you usually find that if you bad mouth the local sports team most of the crowd will begrudgingly agree with you. It was a basic opening match, Hudson has a lot of charisma and the crowd got into him early as he used some very impressive back sentons and a spinning side walk slam. Graves took over after a dip to the outside and went up to the top rope but got caught, as he came off the top he looked to tweak his knee hopefully he is okay. Update - later that night David Graves tweeted he'd been to hospital and had been asked to rest for 2 weeks pending further tests, we all wish him the best. Aussie Open vs Justus Kyle Fletcher comes out alone and sadly informs us that Mark Davis hadn't been cleared to wrestle tonight but he has found himself a partner and its none other than El Phantasmo. Very good match both teams embracing a little bit of silliness but flavoured with very good athleticism Phantasmo’s 3 corner rope walk into a hurricanrana was a personal highlight, He and Stevie Boy did some good mat work out of a test of strength and then transitioned into a great monkey flip spot, they continued to go back and forth until Stevie hit a Canadian destroyer for the hot tag. This was followed up with everyone hitting a move until they hit the 4 way super kick spot followed up by a demolition decapitation device from Justus for the win. Sierra Loxton vs Kasey Owens 4GW Women's Title Match We start out with a series of roll ups. Sierra doesn't want to get in the ring and Kasey gets tired of waiting for her so takes her out with a suicide dive. When she finally gets her back into the ring Sierra takes control with a series of hip attacks. Kasey takes over after an arm bar in the ropes and a super hard missile dropkick to the stomach leaving Sierra gasping for air. They trade German suplexes which got a huge reaction from a portion of the crowd and Kasey retains with a stiff PK, good match. Announcement for their April 1st show DJZ will make his debut for 4GW JJ Barker vs Grado As with every Grado match great comedy but JJ Barker more than kept up his end of the bargain. He showed off some great high flying including two phoenix splashes unfortunately Grado had rolled out of the ring as he climbed to the top rope at one point even going and sitting in the crowd to cheer JJ on and a huge cross body attempt that was sidestepped by Grado but dear lord did JJ soar. JJ also tried a German suplex on the big Scotsman but struggled to even get Grados feet off the floor much to the annoyance of Grado who insisted that he had in fact lost weight. The match ended when JJ tried to hit Grado with his title belt but being plastic it just bounced off and Grado hit an RKO out of nowhere on the title belt for the 3. JJ is very interesting and I feel like he could make a name for himself in a few years Jody Fleisch vs Joe Nelson Air Bourne Title Match I thought I'd definitely seen the youngest performer on the show in the last match with JJ Barker but as Joe Nelson make his entrance the words UK's youngest professional wrestler flashed on the screen and emblazoned on the side of his gear was “Est 02” doing the maths in my head made me feel very, very old. Some very enjoyable high flying mixed in with some good mat work in this one, Jody looked to have saved Joes life when he nearly went head first to the floor on a golden triangle moonsault Jody somehow managed to catch the youngster slow his decent. Jody took the match to the outside and fought over by the bar Joe seemed to be getting the advantage and tried to whip Jody into the wall but Jody pulled off a crazy matrix style wall run into cross body. Joe got a two count off a death valley driver which was very impressive because when you look at the size difference between to two. However Jody fought back using his size and experience advantage. He hit the 720 DDT but had a moment of hesitation to keep on the youngest asking the ref to make sure Joe was okay, the ref said Joe was fine to carry on and as Jody went to pick him up to finish him off Joe rolled him up and got the three with a small package. Chris Ridgeway vs Chris Silvio This was the battle of the late additions as both men were last minute additions to the card. Silvio had Ridgeways number for the beginning of this match until Ridgeway took a nasty spill to the outside and was clutching his knee. From where we were sat you could hear the ref say he's really hurt and they began taking him to the back as the crowd applauded him. But it was a ruse Ridgeway attacked Silvio as he helped him to the back and then worked him over with ground and pound offence. Honestly I don't think I've been so taken in by something like that for years really well worked from these two. Silvio came back and worked over Ridgeways leg for real causing him to limp. Ridgeway got a close two with a spin kick deadlift German combo. Silvio fought back again and hit a ddt on the apron followed by a cutter with him jumping backward off the top rope for the pin. Very well worked and turned into a good match Silvio showed some flashes of the potential which has seen him appear on TV for both NXT and Impact in the past year. Another announcement for the April 1st super show it's the return of the intrepid traveller Paul London. Raffle break - God I love a Raffle, kept up my streak of not winning as well so good times all around. Cara Noir vs Andrew Everett Main Event That main event okay, stop reading this review and go see this match its fine we'll wait.... You back? Okay so.... You saw that right? With the egg and the rope and.... And... Amazing main event blew away expectations I can't do it justice without writing it out move by move it needs to be seen to be believed well worth the price of entry or the DVD. Everett's athleticism is off the charts and Cara is an amazing character that I'd love to see more of anywhere in the UK. So that was my first experience with 4GW and I have to say I'm really impressed I was unsure what to expect but I'd put the experience up there on par with the Lucha Forever show that I attended last year, so I'm going to be keeping an eye on this promotion as they could very well make some strides this year they have some great young talent that in the coming years could very well put this promotion on the map. I 100% recommend picking up the DVD of this show when it becomes available and tickets are available right now for their next show 4GW Zero to 100 live from Ossett Town Hall.
