ATTACK! Pro Wrestling returned to Trinity Centre, Bristol on Saturday 20th May for another night of weird and wonderful professional wrestling. The show had sold out weeks in advance without a single match being announced so much respect to the fans and to ATTACK! as a company for making that happen. Sometimes when this sort of thing happens you do wonder if the show will succeed or flop. However when you're aware of what ATTACK! is more than capable of producing that small amount of doubt placed somewhere in the depths of your mind is laid to rest.
I was back in the ATTACK! audience for this one having missed the Cheltenham a week prior due to a good friend of mind getting married. Although I'm not sure who had more FUNAH on Saturday out of he and I. He'd been in Ireland on his honeymoon while I was at ATTACK! Pro Wrestling 'Soundtrack to a Head Drop'. I'd like to say I edged it but that would be rather selfish of me! Anyways, we're here to look back at this show, so grab yourself your drink of choice while I attempt to indulge you for the next few minutes. 'Remorseless' DAN Moloney vs 'The All Day Star' Ryan Smile This was a hot match to kick us off for the night. Moloney having recently returned to ATTACK! faced a man who's been putting together a rather impressive run of victories as of late. This one was an all out war for a good 10 minutes. Now, sometimes 10 minutes doesn't feel like long enough because sometimes wrestlers have a tendency to rush into things to fit as much action into the match as is possible. There was absolutely none of that here between WWE superstar Moloney and the All Day Star. Everything was very well paced and there was enough in the match to make you feel satisfied come the end of the contest. It was the All Day Star who continued his hot streak. I think I'm right in saying that Ryan has only lost one match so far this year in an ATTACK! ring (against Mondai Lykos at Club 100 THREE in January). My guess is that they're building him up for something big down the line. Possibly an ATTACK! Pro Wrestling Championship match with his former ally Chief Deputy Dunne? Or maybe a run with the 24/7 Championship? As for Moloney, he's certainly getting more and more of a reaction with the 'DAN' chants. He showed a few traits of being a babyface at times in this match. Whether that's the intention or not I really don't know. He played the role really well on the recent WWE UK Championship Special but then is also an incredible heel. I can't wait to see what's in store next in ATTACK! Pro Wrestling for the 'Remorseless' one! Winner - 'The All Day Star' Ryan Smile Love Making Demon vs Cletus Bush Brother vs Danny Jones vs EC Drew Now there were some rather interesting things about this match even before the opening bell. There were the two former members of the tag team Boogie Nights (Demon and Danny), Cletus is a guy I've never seen before and Drew Parker's role this time was that of an ECW fan. Now when you think of ECW fans you'd normally think of someone like Straw Hat Guy or Sign Guy. Drew literally looked like a cross between a smart ass wrestling fan and a Blue World Order version of Stevie Richards! Incredible! The match had everything that I love about ATTACK! from the comedic pelvic thrusts to the face of Drew Parker by the Love Making Demon to the great athletic abilities shown by all four men. Drew and Danny scored with some awesome diving moves and all I could think was "Randy Orton would absolutely detest this!" Ah well, screw Orton! I enjoyed this match and I think pretty much everyone else at Trinity Centre did as well. It was Drew who picked up the win here which surprised me I have to admit. I thought Danny would've picked up the win given his character change and his recent win over DAN Moloney in Cardiff at My Sacrifice. Not complaining about the result though. The match was really good and Drew picked up a big win here. Winner - EC Drew Jim Lee announced that Press Start 5 tickets had gone on sale, and sold out, during that previous week (glad I managed to snag one!) Jim then called for the Press Start Console to be brought to the ring so he could we could all "pay homage to it". Jim basically told the audience that the console needs to be taken care of because if anything happens to it, we're basically fucked. Jim then goes on to talk about how fun Press Start is when the sirens hit! The Anti-Fun Police come out in all of their no fun glory. When will Jim learn? Chief Deputy Dunne identified the Press Start Console as an "illegal contraband" (good word that!) and it was being confiscated by the Anti-Fun Police. Consequently, the No Fun Champion informed the audience that Press Start 5 was cancelled! Hey, we didn't like it but he's the man in charge of enforcing the law in the land of ATTACK! Pro Wrestling! The Brothers of Obstruction vs Bowl-A-Rama Ever since a still frame of CCTV footage was shared by Lloyd Katt, rumours began to circulate in the land of ATTACK! Pro Wrestling that there may have been some sort of foul play involving James and Leigh Obstruction when Bowl-A-Rama's beloved bowling alley was destroyed for a second time in recent months. Bowl-A-Rama came to Bristol for a fight and there was some hope that they'd find the answers to who supplied the dynamite which blew up the alley. It's fair to say that referee Joel Allen (making his debut in ATTACK! Pro Wrestling) had his hands full in this one with two teams eager to prove that they're better than the other. Both teams had large spells of dominance as they searched for the opening to be able to put their opponents away. It was the veteran team of The Brothers of Obstruction who managed to find that opening when Fat Katt looked to hit his moonsault on James. Lloyd was stopped in his tracks by the confession from James that it was both himself and Leigh who supplied the dynamite to blow up Bowl-A-Rama. This caused enough of a distraction for James to roll out of the way of the attempted moonsault while his brother pushed Splits into harms way and Leigh scored the pin on McPins to steal the victory for his team. Post match, Leigh took the mic from Jim Lee and announced that the only regret the Brothers of Obstruction had was that Splits and Lloyd weren't inside when the alley blew up. Don't think for one minute that Bowl-A-Rama will let this go lightly. In fact, I'd expect some sort of immediate redemption at Press Start 5 on June 2nd at Cathays Community Centre. Winners - The Brothers of Obstruction The Anti-Fun Police are back and this time Sergeant Banks has something to say. He tells the fans that alcohol is the reason we were all having fun and by order of Chief Deputy Dunne the bar was being closed for the evening and The Anti-Fun Police were going to confiscate all beverages with The Brothers of Obstruction throwing them into a rubbish bin. One thing I'd like to point out about all of this is that I was having loads of fun and I was drinking lemonade. I'm pretty sure my buddy Craig Gilbert was having fun as well and he's also a non-drinker. Nice try, Travis! This was stopped by The Pride of Wales Eddie Dennis who came down to the ring with two cans of Red Stripe told Travis that he sees some potential in him (as a drinker) and said he can either come into the ring for a wrestling match or a drink. Travis looked as though he was going to take up the latter of those two options until he threw the can offered to him into the rubbish bin which resulted in him being on the receiving end of one of Eddie's infamous forearm smashes to kickstart a wrestling match. Sergeant Banks vs 'The Pride of Wales' Eddie Dennis Now this was bloody brilliant! Much like the four way match from earlier in the night, this match had slices of everything that I love about ATTACK! Pro Wrestling. There was the humorous side which Travis is so great at showing, the amazing in ring skills that both men posses and The Anti-Fun Police shenanigans on the outside of the ring. A definite contender for match of the night in my opinion. After much back and forth action in this incredible contest it was Eddie Dennis who picked up the win with the Next Stop Driver. Eddie even put the match, and his opponent over on Twitter by saying how Travis Banks is the man. It's hard to disagree with him as well. Look at the CV of Travis in 2017 and you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who's been at his level this year. And I don't just mean in the UK, I'm talking worldwide. The only two men (who I've seen regularly) who are in the same league as Travis this year in my opinion are Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega. I don't think I can offer Travis a higher compliment than that! Kyle Fletcher vs Elijah Now this one had me interested from the word go because I'd only ever seen one Kyle Fletcher match prior to this one and Elijah has been impressing the heck out of me over the last six months or so with his work in both ATTACK! and Chaos. The dude is going to be an absolute superstar in the world of wrestling and there's absolutely no reason why he can't make it big in one of the top promotions such as Ring of Honor, New Japan, Impact or even WWE. Kyle was also really impressive here. He's a young man who's travelled to the UK from Australia to make it as a professional wrestler and if he continues to put on matches just like this, there's no reason why he also can't be working in one of the aforementioned top promotions. Big respect to promotions like ATTACK! and Fight Club: PRO for taking the chance on this relatively unknown guy and giving him the platform to show what he's capable of. The last time I remember ATTACK! doing that with an unknown man from that part of the world was with a guy called Travis Banks. History speaks for itself there. My highlight of this match, and one of my highlights of the night was Kyle's diving forearm to the outside where he ran up the ropes in the corner of the ring and smoothly executed a wonderful forearm dive. Sadly for the Australian native it wasn't enough to prevail here as Elijah picked up the win getting himself back on the right side of a result after recent setbacks against the likes of Morgan Webster, Drew Parker and Ryan Smile. Make sure you check this one out on demand if you can. It really was a fine performance by both men! Winner - Elijah #CCK and Chief Deputy Dunne vs 'Flash' Morgan Webster, Mike Bird and Wild Boar Our main event for the evening saw the ATTACK! Pro Wrestling Champion teaming with the ATTACK! Tag Team Champions to take on three men who consider themselves to be the top contenders in those particular divisions. Webster has staked a claim for the ATTACK! Pro Wrestling title since My Sacrifice at the beginning of April and Bird & Boar have been picking up wins for fun since they started teaming in ATTACK! This was everything you'd expect from an ATTACK! Pro Wrestling main event match. For starters, there were six legitimate main event wrestlers. Sometimes promotions put on main event matches and something looks out of place because you feel someone in that match doesn't come across as being at that level. None of that here though as these men are six of the best unsigned talents in this country right now. Hopefully it won't be long before they're all on the books of a major wrestling promotion! There were plenty of talking points from this match but the one I'm going to mention was one of the most impressive things I've ever seen in any wrestling ring. A load of headlocks had been applied by most of the wrestlers in this match. The Anti-Fun Police, banned from ringside earlier on in the contest, returned to the ring to give us a few more headlocks. In a great show of athleticism and balance, Webster ran across the backs of seven men and jumped off of the top rope out onto the Anti-Fun Police members on the outside of the ring who didn't get involved in the headlock shenanigans. This show is worth checking out just for this moment alone! It was the fan favourites who picked up the win here when Boar set up Chief Deputy Dunne for the Trapper Keeper. Webster then scored with a 450 Splash (which ended up being more of a 360), spiking Dunne's head into the mat to score the pin. Surely now this has to mean that Flash is the number one contender to Dunne's ATTACK! Pro Wrestling title? Winners - Mike Bird, Wild Boar and 'Flash' Morgan Webster Webster certainly issued the challenge to Dunne after the match. Dunne neither accepted, (nor declined for that matter) the match but instead cancelled Press Start 5 and ordered Los Federales Santos Jr. to destroy the Press Start Console. Everybody pleaded with Dunne to change his mind but he once again ordered Santos Jr. to destroy the console and so he did and the whole building went into the craziest frenzy I think I've ever witnessed. Did the Press Start Console control more than just the Press Start events? Does it have a hold over the entire ATTACK! Pro Wrestling locker room? What does this mean for Press Start 5 on June 2nd? What does this mean for the entire landscape of ATTACK! Pro Wrestling as we know it? Usually I'd say to follow ATTACK! on social media to find out but it appears as though the actions of Santos Jr. have completely screwed with the goings on with their Facebook and Twitter accounts. I guess if you have a ticket for Press Start 5, turn up to Cathays Community Centre to find out exactly what's next for ATTACK! You can check out this event on the ATTACK! Pro Wrestling Vimeo page at the cost of just £5.99 and believe me when I tell you that it's well worth it! Six awesome wrestling matches, the destruction of the Press Start Console and the uncertainty of the company moving forward makes Soundtrack to a Head Drop a must watch show!
